It this blog post, we will cover our public wish list feature. It is one option that can be used when making your own free wish list.
A public wish list is basically the same as a normal (closed) wish list, but there is a small difference that affects many parts of the service. As the name indicates, the difference is that a public wish list is public. A public list can be seen by anyone, while a normal wish list is shared with a closed group.
In WishSimply, the separation comes from the fact that with a normal wish list, you would be sending a separate email invitation from WishSimply to each person you wan to invite. Every invitation email would contain an unique link that identifies your invitees. That identification would allow WishSimply to track purchases and possible cancellations thereof. It would also allow your invitees to communicate through the system.
A public wish list, however, does not identify visitors, it does not track purchases or allow communication through the platform. Still, it will allow you to share a link to the list e.g. through social media, or embed the list to any web page. Embedding the list to a blog would probably be the ideal use case. This way, it would allow the blogger to present their own desires or values through a wish list.
Let's see a few slideshare slides on how to create a public wish list.
Brands could also use the public wish list feature for free e.g. in co-operation with some third party and create, say, a catalog of their most purchased products, or some kind of product list that would then be featured in a web page or blog.
A public wish list can contain a maximum of 50 items. The code that is provided for embedding the wish list to an external web page will scale so that it can show two rows of items. If the wish list contains more than two rows of items, there will be a vertical scrollbar, just like in the embedded slideshare presentation above.
This presentation is also available in speakerdeck.com and slideserve.com
