Every year, we have been improving this service. Here is a list of the biggest things from the last year.
Landing pages added
We have recently added new landing pages to this service so that we can address the needs of different events directly. Now we have separate landing pages for birthday wish lists, wedding wish lists, and Christmas wish lists. Those pages are otherwise the same as the main page, but they address only the respective specific event. So there is no longer a mix of Birthdays and Weddings and Christmas. The idea is to serve each need better by providing pages that focusing on one event only. It will keep the message shorter and clearer, and hopefully drive action more likely. Below are screenshots from all of these pages.
Export your information
We have added the possibility to export your information. You can find that from the settings page. We are going to post a separate blog post about it soon too.
Social media page updated
Our social media page has also been updated. We have removed the Google+ and added Reddit, Diaspora and Mastodon (Finnish channel) services. We are still not active on social media as such, but we will post there our updates and comment back if you leave messages there. If you are active in social media, we would appreciate it if you could put in a word or two for us.
Bookmarklet page improved
Bookmarklet page has got a video to better illustrate how easy the bookmarklet is to install (really, it is just drag & drop), and how easy it is to add items with it.
New language added
We have added one more language to the service, so now you can use wishsimply in Spanish. Por favor! We are also hoping to add at least one more language to the service during 2020.
Emails tuned
We have improved the emails to look nicer in those email clients that can show emails in html. Below you can see the old email on the left and the new email template on the right.
Uptime visible
We already told you a few years ago that we have had great uptime scores. Meaning that this wish list service has been available practically all the time without almost any down time. Now one of the monitoring services that we have been using has made a custom uptime page available for free and we have taken advantage of that. So now you can also follow our uptime on that page. Thanks UptimeRobot! The current status (as visible in the attached image) shows that we had 2 mins of downtime at 2020-02-28 16:55:02, but it is not fully accurate in the sense that it was planned downtime for the new release, and as per industry practice those should not be reported as a downtime. However, the service was not available during that time, so you see the whole truth there.
Other
We had some mistakes in canonical and hreflang tags that prevented google from indexing our pages correctly. Those are now fixed with the help of this nice service. I think that it was absolutely the best resource in that area. Sure, there were docs at google, and we followed those, but we still got it wrong initially. In addition to the bigger and visible changes listed above, we have also made several smaller fixes and improvements to the site. Added tooltips, fixed margins, and fixed some functional bugs too.
